3. I would confront the situation head-on. ask her directly what she means by choosing between head and heart, and ask her to spare no detail.

   she might think she's avoiding hurting you, but her waffling is only making things worse. that “give me time” bit is absolutely wonderful for her, but pretty awful for you… does she not see that? how long does she intend to keep you on hold?

   if she's moving on, it's time to sack up and do it– keeping everyone's lives in a holding pattern while she figures her shit out is pretty selfish.

   if she does come back with long-term concerns about your earning power, what would your response be? do you have any opportunities to earn more, be it via raise or finding a different job?

   how much time have you already given her?
