3. We’re not in couples’ counseling, but I think it would be helpful and I really wish I could afford it. I worry that I might be at fault with my tone, because I don’t pay attention to tone much (except for avoiding sounding impatient/angry). Mostly with my voice, I’ve been focusing on talking more clearly, since I tend to speak fast and somewhat softly.

4. All this can be made real simple with a friendly talk about boundaries in a fwb situation. They are different for everyone, but an example to set might be:

   No dating, holding hands in public etc Less texting during the week Less personal, emotional conversation Seeing others is allowed No romantic behaviour (talking about “if you asked me out” etc) Some might say no sleeping over?

   And if you want a proper thing then tell him that, and set rules for that also! It can all be done with one conversation.
