I'm so sorry for your loss, suicide can be so devastating. Often when someone chooses suicide those left behind look for reasons and/or people to blame. I wonder if in some ways his family has chosen you to blame and therefore are trying to “punish” you.
Maybe you could write a letter to your friend about your love and friendship. Acknowledge the difficult as well as the positives, find forgiveness for you both. Let his family move through their grief, there may come a time they'll reach out to you. Take very gentle care of yourself.
