I’m not saying boys will be boys “though to be fair, boys will be boys, since they are boys”.
What OP does is up to her. As for my conversation with you, I’m merely suggesting considering empathy over whatever juice you’re getting from a sense of moral superiority.
Because the reality is, if you were this young man – literally, born of his parents on his birthdate with his exact dna and experiences, in the exact world/timeline he has experienced, you’d be doing and thinking the exact same things.
So he's asking you to throw away your career in exchange for checks notes… Nothing?
Just to throw this out there. Has she thought of how the kids are going to deal with the hyphenations when THEY get married? Sounds like a bit of a pain for them.
Does she have a family name she needs to carry on, for example being the only female who can?
I think she should hyphenate her name… then she keep her name but makes it clear she is married.
How about you both hyphenate and the kids are hyphenated too. That would be the biggest way to have a cohesive set of names and then you both have to suffer the name change fun, and a REALLY big sign of how into her you are. You love each other so much you took each others names.
But you said she wants to keep her name and not take yours at all, she wants to continue to legally be who she is now… huh. Welll… how about put her last name as the kids middle names? But have your name as their last name?
Ultimately her idea of her keep her name , you keep your name, hyphenate the kids, sounds pretty good. But the hyphenate might make their lives annoying a little bit.
