The problem is that he's being sneaky and lying. I'm female, I have male coworkers with whom I'm friends and text with and hang out. And their wives all know me, and sometimes they come hang out, too. My dude friends are open about texting me and hanging out. He's being shady and straight up lied about who picked him up. My big issue from him is when he doesn’t put me or my needs first, or when he puts others above me, or when he clearly makes no effort for me.

There is no state in the USA where that is true. The mother will likely not get full custody, but I guarantee you the court will give her visitation.
