Freemen on the land, or sovereign citizens, think that all law of the land is contract based and corporate and if you don’t agree with it, then it means you do not consent to it and you can’t be bound by it. That is, of course, wishful thinking and total bollocks.
They tend to apply that thinking to stuff like education, rules of the road, refusing to identify themselves when asked to by law enforcement, usually because they’re caught in the middle of some misdemeanour and their behaviour makes it considerably worse. They tend to favour very complex legal language that sounds like it may have some persuasive legal meaning, but it is largely mumbo jumbo. (As if law is a magic spell where no one can touch you if you get the incantation right.) For me the red flags are “contract with the state” (marriage is a matter for statute or occasionally common law but not contract) and references to a “corporate judge” (family law judges aren’t usually sitting in corporate matters).
It’s a special type of ignorance that pretends to know a lot, and I would not get involved with someone with that mindset.
