1. You made no mention or care about love, red flags, compatibility or happiness. Children and marriage is an honourable goal. But make sure your marriage will be a happy one.

   Stop trying to rush a process because you feel urgency.

   Children or not. Would you want to be with her for the rest of your life? Are her issues acceptable to you? Do you love each other? Does she want the same goals as you and same timeline? Have you discussed how you would both do and handle it? That’s the point of dating.

2. I think you stayed with him because he showed you the barest minimum of affection and that was something you’d never gotten before.

   Now you’re 30ish and the barest minimum doesn’t feel like enough. But he isn’t giving more. So you separate. He did nothing to earn your affection back, just begged and made you feel guilty. So you took him back. And now he’s back to ignoring your needs.

   But I think you know all that already.

   I had a coworker once in a marriage that sounded a lot like yours. I got my wife flowers…just because. Got them on my lunch break, had them at my desk. The coworker commented, asked if it was my wife’s birthday. No. Was I in trouble. No. Then she said her husband has never gotten her a present, or flowers, or jewelry.

   They are divorced now. She got fed up with his utter lack of meaningful affection. Your turn.
