Have you thought maybe it's b/c he's hesitant to be telling you BiL is wanting him to drop the last habit/”drug friend” aka you?!? Because if my brother who was (15.5 yrs younger) was still dating the girl who he spent a decade with despite his drug addict/ignoring his addiction, I would be high pressed to trust him that you are okay and won't be his downfall. Which would also be why he sees him as the “enemy” even if he hasn't told you.
