I agree with this. People who go so far as to create a dating profile for you have the nerve to say you “overreact” a lot?

Based on this ONE thing it is easy to say that they have been stepping all over you in smaller ways for your entire life.

To them, this isn't a big deal because.. it is just one step farther in a pattern of disrespect.

I would agree that your depression was likely from a sense of a lack of control. When your parents stomp all over you and do really icky things “for you” it is naked to realize that This Is Not Normal.

They aren't doing things for you. They are doing things at you.

How are you supposed to be hapoy when your parents are constantly giving you messages saying You Are Not Complete??

How fucking sad that your parents can't step back and be proud of you for the ABSOLUTELY AMAZING ADULT THAT YOU CURRENTLY ARE!!!

It definitely is time to let their feelings be hurt. You don't need to hurt them… because you can ignore this profile and anything they send you as CONSEQUENCES of their decisions.

Personally, I would send them a message saying: “I am appalled that you would set up a dating profile for me. I am an adult and I can make my own choices about how and where I socialize. Not only will I NOT be accepting any dates from people you interact with on that site, I will not be talking to either of you until you take down a profile that posts all my personal information out on the internet for any crazy person to see. This is not how you support your child in a loving way.”

Then just turn off all notifications from them for a week. Parents this controlling are going to blow up your phone.

You need to demonstrate a greater separation from them – in order to get them to start treating you with respect.

The key thing going forward will be CONSISTENCY. If you say No then you cannot back down. They sound like people who don't take No for an answer and will keep badgering like a toddler until they get their way. Toddlers learn that sometimes you just need to badger a little longer until parents finally cave. You will want to start writing down your Boundaries to get through this next stage of your life.
