You have already told them. You can't un-do that.
I think you did the right thing to tell them. If knowing this affects their relationship with a distant family member (who they already don't like) that's totally fine. It isn't up to you to manage their relationships.
Them being “able to get over it and move on” isn't your problem or responsibility.
I had a very traumatic upbringing, I then ended up with someone like this thinking I could help or fix him. I wasted 8 years of my life and I didn't leave until one day he broke my ribs kneeling on me while choking me and our son walked in. I then had the giant mess of leaving with nothing but a bag of clothes for the kids, no one to go to cause id become so isolated, kids having nightmares then a lengthy divorce.
Leave now while you can and no kids are involved.
