Sage advice, needs more upvotes
My husband is incredibly grumpy and reactive when he’s still asleep/just awake. He’s never hurt me like that but I wouldn’t doubt that it’s possible. He and I work at the shop we own together, and after a year of trying to be kind and wake him up nicely, i stopped. He would be an ass to wake up, and then be in an entirely foul mood right off the bat which would then carry over to the entire day since we’d spend 100% of it together, at home then work then home again. Now, I just have to listen to his 8 million alarms go off while I get ready and he sleeps through them. Sometimes now I’ll shake his foot then turn the light to the bedroom on when I leave. Usually he just doesn’t wake up until closer to 8 am when I leave at 6:30. He’ll show up late and grumpy that he overslept, but at least I get to have a somewhat peaceful morning before having to deal with him.
Moral: he’s a grown man, he can wake himself up, and if he can’t that shouldn’t be your problem. Don’t let him treat you like a mother.
