Honestly I think many people have a more idealized view of Canada. The cold weather does suck, but so do a lot of other things. Healthcare may be free, but it's pretty horrible. I've been waiting 8 months now to see a specialist and no idea how much time is left. It took months for me to get an ultrasound when the doctor suspected I had kidney stones. ER wait times are through the roof.
Also, not sure how much relevancy this has but my boyfriend is fairly rich, so his plan is to buy property in the US over 800K. When you do that you get some kind of access, I'm not sure exactly how it all works but he's done research into this.
I guess for me it's not just about the political views, but about what these views say about him as a person.
