3. You definitely go to the therapist. But you go to the therapist to save yourself, not to save your marriage. What are the odds your husband’s ex-step-sister just showed up and this is the first time anything happened between them? You say they didn’t grow up together, and aren’t close from childhood, and were only family for about a year. So, it’s not like she wanted to visit to reminisce about old times.

   Get a therapist for you. Get therapists for your kids. Be honest with your kids about why your marriage is ending, but be careful to not disparage their father to them, as much as you might want to. But do not lie to them about why things ended. Kids aren’t dumb, and they have a way of figuring things out, and resenting being lied to.
