A touch weird for me as i'm UK so HI is a none issue, I do understand why people in the US see marriage as a need when its factored in over the pond.
That said, i learned the very very hot way that when your partner pushes for marriage for reasons that aid them once the paperwork is signed, and not for the real reasons you should be married.
Once they get what they want, they treat the “marriage” as unimportant. (it lasted 2 months)
For me they just wanted a wedding (i paid 100% for) and the security of getting half (they didn't)
