It sounds like your wants are not actually conflicting in the long term – he wants somewhere with a landscape that he likes with outdoor access, and you want somewhere with a “good support system” (is this just a good social circle? you're a little far from both of your families). Do you have any friends that online in locations that your spouse might like? You could also look for locations that have communities related to your hobbies/interests.
You can make friends and set down roots wherever you go, but that takes time, and it can be lonely at first. So I think the real issue here is
what our relationship has to offer, which is often lacking for me.
