1. If I wasn’t pregnant I would never have taken my husband back. But I just don’t want my baby to be born without his parents being together. I love my stepdad but he never loved me like he did his biological children (my half siblings) and it gave me a lot of pain growing up.

   It can be just as painful to be raised by two parents who don't love each other anymore and are staying together not by choice but out of a misguided sense of duty.

   Kids can pick up on their parents' sadness even when they do their best to conceal it. I felt anxious about how unhappy both my parents were from an early age, which made me feel that I had to manage my own behaviour to try and alleviate their unhappiness.

   A home can still feel broken even when the parents are 'together'.
