1. It seems that your next logical move should be sitting down with him (literally, in person, eyeball to eyeball) and flat out asking him what he wants. As in, where is this going. I know that you’re only in your 20s, but those have a habit of turning into 30s quicker than you think. From what you’re describing, you seem to have a perfectly reasonable timeline for certain life expectations, whereas he seems to value his unbound status quite a lot. I also noticed that despite 6 years of knowing him you only see each other every few weeks. That doesn’t look like much of a relationship, if I’m honest. I get it, some ppl can handle ldr, but typically those are circumstantial, as in, unable to move due to job/family/lease/etc., and as such there is an implication that it’s a temp situation with a goal of eventually getting a place together. But this dude had 6 years to get that sorted, yet he prefers living with a roommate? Ok, I guess, to each their own… clearly this isn’t working for you. The saddest part is that even if you were to get him into a mutual household, he won’t be thrilled about it, and you’d end up living with someone who’s miserable and resentful. Lastly, I’d ask myself, after 6 years of very sporadic interpersonal encounters, how much do I really know this person? And do I really love him for who he is, or just the idea of him that my mind is making up, filling the colossal blanks with wishful thinking.
