I [28] am gluten free and I went over to a dinner at my husband's [30] mother's house to celebrate a birthday and was surprised when she said she made gluten free pasta. I expected to see a small section put aside for me, but rather she said the entire pot was gluten free.
I have been gluten sensitive for a few years now, and gluten free pasta usually falls apart, or is very dense. This pasta tasted amazing, almost too amazing. I asked her what brand was it, and she immediately said she didn't know. I asked the aunt, who helps with the dinner and she also said she didn't know. I asked what it was made out of, and they said they didn't know.
When I told my husband that I don't think it was gluten free, he peeked in the trash can to see if he could spot the box they used. He didn't find it. I asked him if they would be so negligent to tell me it was gluten free when it wasn't. He assured me they wouldn't do that, but we had already eaten.
My husband told me if I wasn't feeling well, to take his car and drive home. I left early and went home bloated and feeling off. When my husband got home shortly after, he said he was mad and that it definitely wasn't gluten free. I asked if they had told him, and he said no, but he tasted it and it definitely wasn't gluten free.
I don't want to go over to their home anymore for dinners, if they are lying to me about what I'm eating.
What should I do in the future when they invite us? I'm leaning towards not going there anymore, but they throw a lot of parties and I would be at home by myself. Should I just bring my own food and not eat there?
