I totally get why you’re mad. It’s a very backhanded gift. He knew what he was doing when he did it too, and that’s just shitty.
I would take a day or two to gather your thoughts and to cool down. Then I would calmly approach him and ask him what he was thinking. Perhaps this is just truly a one-off super dumb decision on his part. Hopefully he’ll apologize. You can tell him again that you won’t be able to alter these pants any time soon because you are not that well versed yet with the machine. Tell him if he wants them altered that badly, he can find a seamstress in the area and pay to have them done. If he won’t do that, then you can see if they’ll sell on Poshmark or Facebook marketplace to get some of the $ back.
But make sure you tell him (calmly) how his idea/gift wasn’t exactly thoughtful once he decided to purchase the pants and practically order you to alter them. You’re his partner, not his maid.
Remain calm throughout the conversation. Hopefully he realizes his mistake/dumb call and tries to make it right for you.
I'm 100% with you on this. Don't hit kids. There's no reason to bring physical pain to a child to “teach them a lesson”. We tell kids to “use your words” and not to hit, but then hit them when they do something undesirable. Not good.
