This idea was put into his head and has been festering due to his friends. I can understand the need to put a worry to bed, even one he might recognize as stupid. That said, this idea became a worry for a reason. That reason might not even have to do with you and your relationship.
Supporting his request while also asking him to commit working on rebuilding trust on BOTH sides will hopefully strengthen your relationship as husband/wife and future parents.
Leave or get used to this, those are your options. He isn't going to change.
