She's angry at you. We the internet can't say whether or not it is justified. You need a third party in the room in a counseling session to figure that out. The answer is counseling and listening to what your wife says there. The grudges are only old to you.
This is a normal curiosity, but it’s Ian incredibly stupid thing to say to the person in question. It’s perfectly natural to feel insecure.
I see two red flags here:
He wasn’t considerate enough to keep this curiosity to himself.
He didn’t immediately apologize.
Tell him exactly what you want: an apology and for him to make a concerted effort to rebuild your confidence in his attraction to you.
Sounds like your colleagues aren't bothered, you're not bothered, but your friend is and she doesn't work there so it isn't any of her business.
