My first thought is that he cashed the checks to do something nefarious with the money. I can be a little irresponsible with depositing my paychecks but I keep them all in one place so I don’t lose them. How is he on his time, is he frequently late or not around without explanation? 17k is a lot of money to go missing. That’s some peoples entire yearly income. I mean, that’s a huge chunk of his yearly paychecks.
With that much money missing you’re definitely in the right to start looking at him with suspicion. Tbh I myself would consider hiring a private investigator but I’m really petty. Any measures you take at this point are valid because he’s either misappropriating funds (basically stealing from the family) or he’s so bad with money he’s losing his paychecks. I think even looking through his phone would be justified.
