Maybe it's part of our response to our particular forms of ADHD? Task-switching has a mental cost and can kind of be mentally painful, so it's kind of just easier for everyone to let the other person complete whatever they are doing.
We're also 48 and have been married for 10 years, so maybe just fewer things feel urgent enough to rush to like that. There's urgent, and there's important. good news is important, but not urgent. Completing a dungeon run is urgent, but not important. Within reasonable limits, completing urgent things comes first. Something that is both urgent and important takes top priority of course.
