We've been dating for two months and have been friends for over two years and things have been going great. She recently made a comment that while she is attracted to me, she is " a little above my league" in terms of looks. I don't think she meant to be mean, and I've suspected for awhile that main reason she is dating me is because she thinks I'm funny, but this cut me kinda deep. I know that people often don't just date the people they find the most physically attractive but hearing her say that just makes me feel ugly. Shes pretty picky about who she dates, having only dated another dude for about a year and getting approached by dudes on a near daily basis, but this just makes me feel like shes just settling on me for now. I'm not really the jealous type but I don't know how I could have a long term relationship when she explicitly told me that she could date a more attractive person if she wanted. Again, it was a quick comment and it didn't feel malicious, but damn, it sucks to hear. I feel self conscious when we get close to each other because I'm clearly way more attracted to her than she is to me. It was a point of pride that I could get a partner that was so much more attractive than me, but hearing her say it to my face just makes me feel terrible. Does anyone have any similar experiences? This is my first relationship so i'm new to all this, but is there a silver lining here?
