Of course it’s somewhat subjective. But I think it’s incredibly widely accepted social convention to ask for updates on your friend’s life when you meet up. Also for most people, after a year with your significant other you would be doing major things together – going on holidays, attending parties together, going for meals out, seeing plays or films or bands So one of
1) you friends are completely incurious about your life
2) you didn’t think any of the things listed above were interesting enough to warrant mention to your friends
3) you weren’t actually spending any time or doing anything interesting with you SO
So which was it?
I would start looking for a new job. You don’t need to immediately quit (you probably shouldnt) but there’s definitely going to be fallout, if not with upper management then definitely with your coworkers. Once a rumor like that goes around it never dies, and it’s not even a rumor, it’s true and your boss started it himself. It’s an embarrassing story at this point, and it will make the rounds in the office. Your reputation at work is basically ruined. Also, if you quit too quickly, you’re basically confirming that it’s true and everyone is going to know you quit because you got caught fucking your boss.
